The Qatar Red Crescent Society's representation office in Sudan finished maintenance and MEP rehabilitation at Jabalab Health Center, and supplied new medical equipment and furnishings. QRCS officials met with the Sudanese Red Crescent to discuss coordination, and QRCS plans additional health projects during 2026.

United Way of Amarillo & Canyon said it raised $3.5 million and exceeded its annual goal within nine months, and held a Feb. 26 luncheon to present awards and share its 2025 Community Status Report.

Live Music Society opens Music in Action grant after $5M in venue support
Live Music Society has opened applications for its fourth annual Music in Action grant, with requests up to $50,000 and a March 12 deadline. Since 2020 the nonprofit reports it has awarded more than $5 million to small venues across the U.S.
Paws For Love adoption event at SCV Public Library on Feb. 7.
The City of Santa Clarita and Castaic Animal Care Center will host the PAWS for Love adoption event at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Branch on Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with adoption fees waived and only licensing fees required.

Albemarle chose Denver artist Bobby MaGee Lopez to paint a nature-themed mural on the east side of 119 W. Main St., adjacent to Courthouse Plaza, with installation scheduled for completion by June 30 and a commission of up to $35,000 funded by an ARPA grant.
Valentine's Day events support Capital Region animal shelters
Local animal shelters and pet businesses across the Capital Region are hosting Valentine's Day–themed fundraisers and adoption events this week, including adoption clinics, pet photoshoots, flea markets, and donation-driven services. Several events run between Feb. 7 and Feb. 13 with some registration or fees and a Puppygram order deadline on Feb. 12.
Walk for Peace marks 100 days on the road and heads toward Washington.
After 100 days and about 2,300 miles, the Walk for Peace led by Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra passed through Richmond with thousands attending; organizers say the group is scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 10–11.

The $2.5 million Sprouts House, funded in part by a donation from Sprouts Farmers Market, will open at Mansfeld Magnet Middle School on Nov. 7 and includes a renovated culinary center, a workshop space, and a school garden tied into cafeteria meals.
MOJA Arts Festival marks Black History Month with Dock Street Theatre shows
The MOJA Arts Festival will present two performances at the Dock Street Theatre on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 as part of its 41st anniversary season, featuring poetry, visual art, music and storytelling. One evening honors the 50th anniversary of Black History Month and the other is an Aretha Franklin tribute concert.
