Swindon's historic hooter is set to sound again to mark the 40th anniversary of the Railway Works closure. The Works shut on 26 March 1986, when the hooter rang for the final time. Ron Johnson, who sounded that last hooter aged 35, will return at 75 to blow a replica hooter on 26 March 2026 at 4.30pm at STEAM Museum. The replica was built by Colin Hatch in 2016 and will be powered by steam from a traction engine boiler.
