East Riding of Yorkshire Council has applied to convert offices in Bridlington into a Live Well Campus that would include a larger dental practice. Planning documents state the proposed surgery could offer about 1,700 appointments a week, including roughly 840 for NHS patients, and provide space for 17 surgeries. The application would allow mydentist to relocate from its current Quay Road premises. Residents have reported difficulty securing NHS dental appointments and say they travel to other towns for treatment.
Key facts:
- The proposal would convert Crown Community Centre offices on Quay Road into a Live Well Campus with a dental practice across the ground and first floors.
- Documents state capacity for about 1,700 appointments per week, including around 840 NHS appointments, and room for 17 surgeries.
- mydentist would be able to relocate to the larger building; it is currently the only local practice offering NHS dentistry but is not accepting new NHS patients.
- The NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board has published details of two five-year contracts, each worth more than £3m, likely to be awarded to Whitecross Dental Care and Genix Healthcare.
- Local residents say they currently travel to Hull, Beverley or Driffield for dental care and some have paid private fees when NHS appointments were not available.
Summary:
If the planning application is approved and the contracts are confirmed, appointment capacity in Bridlington would nearly double and the new premises would add clinical space. The NHS contracts are expected to be confirmed on 3 March. The planning decision on the building conversion is undetermined at this time.
